The latest installment of Third Man’s Vault subscription series is centered around country icon Loretta Lynn. They’re releasing a deluxe edition vinyl reissue of her 2004 Jack White-produced album Van Lear Rose, a 7″ featuring two White Stripes covers of Lynn’s songs, and a whole lot more. Hear a snippet of their “Rated X” cover above.
The White Stripes recorded their cover of “Rated X” in Detroit in 2000—it was originally intended to be a B-side to their cover of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene”. The B-side is the band’s cover of Lynn’s “Whispering Sea”, which was performed at the Gorge Amphitheater in George, Wash. back in August 2005. It’s pressed on white vinyl.
Van Lear Rose comes with a previously unreleased track from the album’s sessions called “Just to Have You Back”. It’s pressed on gold vinyl and comes in a fancy sleeve featuring gold foil embossing.
The package also includes an exclusive DVD featuring new interviews with White and Lynn, plus more archival footage. There’s also a custom foil-stamped and embossed postcard, unused photos from the album’s artwork sessions, and an enamel rose pin featuring the real-life rose called Loretta Lynn Van Lear.
There are a bunch of other perks to subscribing to Third Man’s Vault. Find more info here.
